Kenny The Clown: CT, MA, & RI Balloon Twister and Magician!

June 23, 2014 kscope

Kenny is a CT-based clown who has been a balloon twister and magician for over a decade. He is by far our most sought-after entertainer! After well over a decade of professional entertainment experience (and just as much time working as an artist and educator) we promise that every experience you have with Kenny will be a magical one!

If you’re thinking of booking Kenny, here are the answers to some of the most common questions we get asked!

Is Kenny good with kids?

Kenny is a certified teacher who graduated from CCSU and has been working in public schools as an educator since 2011. Because of this training, Kenny engages children at an age-appropriate level: from slapsticks for toddlers to witty jokes for middle schoolers.

The biggest difference with Kenny and other clowns, as you’ll see, is that he understands children on a professional level. His modern act and never-scary appearance are not only fun, but engage kids in a way they understand and feel comfortable with.

(And, of course, has plenty of jokes that will go over the kids’ heads but will have teens and adults cracking up!)

See what real clients have been saying on Google, GigSalad, and Facebook:

He’s a clown? What Else does he do?

Kenny describes his role at your party as “a stand-up comedian for kids”.

For his balloon-twisting comedy station, Kenny twists everything from headbands to giant animals to fun swords and wands. But as he makes his way through your event, he will keep kids laughing and laughing! Everything from how he blows up balloons to how he presents them to kids is fun–his act also involves some slapstick and a hint of magic. Anything to keep kids watching him and smiling.

For his magic show, Kenny will fill a 30-minute set with tons of jokes, tricks that “go wrong”, and of course some spectacular magic! It’s perfect for ages 4-8, but can be enjoyed from ages 3-10.

And finally, for his strolling magic, Kenny will roam your party with tons of pocket-sizes surprises–whether that’s a clowny gag or an amazing magic trick!

Kenny is also available for face painting and temporary tattoos. Just ask when booking!

How much Entertainment experience does he have?

Kenny’s a true entertainer, focusing not on the complexity of tricks but on engagement, delivery, and connection with his audience.

In fact, Kenny works not only as an entertainer but on the Kaleidoscope office team as our Consulting Artist. He helps provide coaching and feedback for newer performers (such as our magicians and bubble show artists) but helps get existing balloon twisters and face painters to the next level with his insider knowledge as an industry veteran.

That’s because Kenny began performing as a clown in high school, joined the Kaleidoscope after graduating college in 2013, and has attended professional conventions all around the united states to truly master balloon twisting, magic, face painting and the art of entertainment. With 500+ events under his belt, he’s one of the most experienced children’s party entertainers in the United States.

And like all of Kaleidoscope, Kenny has over 100+ college and corporate events under his belt. Whether you want his standard package or to customize something special, everything he does can be adjusted to your event.

Is he the right fit for my special needs kiddo?

Because Kenny is a certified teacher with over a decade of experience working with children from all backgrounds, abilities, and identities. He not only has professional experience working with children who have developmental disabilities (including autism) but as a Spanish heritage language speaker can also accommodate Spanish-speaking kids (although his shows and entertainment are only available in English.)

An Interview with Kenny the Clown: CT’s most beloved Kid’s Party Balloon Twister and Magician!

When and why did you start working at Kaleidoscope?

I have been with Kaleidoscope since the beginning! I was already working as a balloon twister and clown, but I wanted to “hang my hat” as a performing artist and an agency was the right fit. Before this I was working freelance, but having a whole team has helped me go from 4-5 events a year (like most early clowns or magicians) to 4-5 events a weekend.

What’s your favorite art form (or performance etc) to do here?

Out of everything balloon twisting is by far my favorite thing to do. I love the ability to make somebody laugh or smile with just a few twists of a balloon. Being a balloon twister just feels natural to me!

What are people’s reactions when you tell them that you’re a professional Clown?

They tend to laugh at first and think I’m joking. When I go into detail though, they’re  delighted that real clowns are still around or even still a thing!

What is one surprising fact about you?

That I also work in education! As much as I love being a balloon twister and magician, being a teacher is just as important to me. (And as a bonus, the schedules tend to compliment each other!)

What do you think your superpower as a magician is?

Most of my formal entertainment training is in clowning, so I’m great at improv! A magic show can go two totally different ways in two totally different clowns, and being a clown first has made me a stronger magician second.

What is the hardest thing about being a clown, balloon twister, or magician?

Being away from loved ones. Most of us in this industry have missed family get-togethers, weddings, or even funerals. Some of my return clients will book me out a year in advance, so if someone in my life wants to schedule an event that I myself want to go to, they sometimes get beat to the punch by our (amazing) clients.

What’s one piece of advice you give to every parent planning a birthday party?

Always feel free to over communicate, communication is key!

What’s one thing you want every corporate event planner to know?

Communication is key, whether it be parking info or even just knowing where bathrooms are. It helps a lot with timing during a big event!

What is your favorite activity for summer camp event entertainment and why?

Magic is fun at camps although foam is becoming my fave!
